Dr Nour Al Husein

Nour Al Husein is a Senior Research Associate at Bristol Medical School and a social scientist with a background in pharmacy and microbiology. Originally trained as a pharmacist, her research focuses on health inequalities, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), physical activity and the co-production of interventions with underserved communities. She combines perspectives from public health, social science and behavioural science to understand how social, cultural and health system factors shape health outcomes

Since 2019, Nour’s research has focused on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and antimicrobial use (AMU), with particular interests in health inequalities, social determinants of health, and the experiences of underserved communities. Her work has explored the drivers of antibiotic use in Thailand, the impact of COVID-19 on antimicrobial stewardship in low- and middle-income countries, and the social and cultural determinants of antibiotic use in Egypt.

More recently, Nour has expanded her research into intervention development, co-production and behaviour change. Working within the NIHR Bristol Biomedical Research Centre, she leads projects focused on reducing health inequalities, including co-producing physical activity interventions for South Asian men with prostate cancer and working with Islamic religious settings to support childhood obesity prevention. She is also Principal Investigator of a Research Capability Funding project exploring antimicrobial resistance inequalities in underserved communities in the UK.
