Training and development
The NIHR Biomedical Research Centre: Bristol is committed to research and capacity development by providing research training opportunities.
Our training theme aims to offer outstanding research training to all clinical and non-clinical staff groups. We do this by providing tailored training and support for all staff, and doctoral (PhD) students.
Training events and initiatives developed by us are tailored to address research skill gaps. We also work with existing partners to build on established research training programmes.
Our approach is aimed at enabling sustainable research careers from pre- to post-doctoral qualification and beyond. To ensure equitability, we actively support staff from under-represented disciplines, and champion an inclusive research culture where all staff are supported to upskill in research.
The Training and Development Forum
The Training and Development Forum (TDF) are a working group within the training theme. The TDF’s goal is to ensure inclusive and relevant training is delivered to all staff groups within NIHR Biomedical Research Centre: Bristol.
The TDF is made up of staff at varying career stages working in clinical, non-clinical and professional services roles. TDF membership is representative of the intended recipients of our training.
All members of the TDF are involved in collaborative decision-making about the research training we offer. This ensures relevance across staff groups.
The purpose of the TDF is to:
- Enhance communication between the training leads and those they intend to support.
- Ensure diversity of staff and student groups from varying career-stages, disciplines, and organisations are represented in decision-making processes around training, development and research culture initiatives.
- Critically review whether processes for accessing training opportunities and feedback processes are inclusive, with a particular focus on under-served groups.
- Safeguard transparency in decision-making and delivery of the BRC research and capacity development strategy.
