Status: This project is ongoing

Healthcare providers are increasingly using artificial intelligence (AI) to support clinical decision-making, especially in the fields of radiology and pathology. Many AI technologies perform well, however, implementing them successfully depends on healthcare professionals understanding, trusting and integrating AI generated results into their everyday practice.

This qualitative study is part of the wider Vanguard Path project. The Vanguard Path project is a study exploring how AI can improve prostate cancer diagnosis by helping healthcare professionals understand how aggressive a man’s cancer is and how it might behave over time.

Project aims

Our study will explore what healthcare professionals think about introducing and using AI in their everyday practice. We will investigate their views and experiences with a particular focus on:

  • Feasibility
  • Acceptability
  • Trust
  • Implementation in practice

What we hope to achieve

This study will help us understand more about the implementation of AI in healthcare and identify factors influencing its acceptability, feasibility, and integration into practice.

Our findings will inform:

  • Future research
  • Implementation strategies
  • Training for healthcare professionals
  • Developing guidance relating to AI-enabled healthcare technologies
