Dr Gibran Hemani

Gibran Hemani completed his PhD in quantitative genetics at the University of Edinburgh in 2012, and then spent two years continuing research on the genetic architecture of complex traits at the University of Queensland.

He came to the University of Bristol in 2014 working broadly on statistical genetics, epigenetics and causal inference methodology.

Following his Sir Henry Dale fellowship on the topic of high dimensional causal modelling, he is now a co-lead of the Mendelian randomisation programme in the MRC Intergrative Epidemiology Unit and three international research collaborations – the Genetics of DNA Methylation (GoDMC) consortium, the within-families consortium, and the OpenGWAS project. He also co-leads the curriculum decolonisation initiative at the Bristol Medical School.
