Addressing health inequalities
Making health research more inclusive is at the heart of everything we do at the NIHR BRC: Bristol. We want to make sure our work reaches people from diverse groups with no one excluded because of their background.
Our research
We do research aimed at reducing unfair and systematic health differences between different groups of people. This can be seen in the priorities and approaches of all our research themes.
Community involvement
We work with different communities to make sure they have a strong voice in planning and delivering research. We draw on our connections with communities across Bristol and through our partnership with Bradford Institute for Health Research. Commitment to ensuring all communities have a voice guides our approach to patient and public involvement and engagement.
Our people
Our team is made up of staff from different disciplines, specialisms, and backgrounds. Our approach to training and development actively supports staff from under-represented disciplines, and champions an inclusive research culture where all staff are supported to upskill in research
Equality, diversity and inclusion strategy
We have developed a strategy to help us make changes that improve diversity.
The National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) has approved it and requires us to regularly report on our progress in this area.
Read the full version of the strategy and see our action plan for information about our goals and planned actions.
