About the event

Heatwaves are becoming increasingly common around the world, including in the UK, and are linked to increased psychiatric hospital admissions and suicides.

During this coffee catch-up Dr Joanne Newbury will talk about her work on improving our understanding of the relationship between temperature extremes (e.g., heatwaves) and mental health, including identifying mechanisms and protective/risk factors.

Join People in Health West of England (PHWE) for this researcher coffee catch-up, ask questions, give feedback and engage with research projects happening in your local area.

Our speaker

Dr Joanne Newbury is a research fellow based in Bristol Medical School, with a background in psychology, anthropology, and epidemiology.

Her research investigates the role of city living, neighbourhood conditions, and air pollution in mental health problems.
