Led by Dr Charlotte Atkinson and Professor Andy Ness
Our aim is to develop nutrition-based interventions that can improve health outcomes in people who have undergone, or are undergoing, hospital treatment such as surgery or chemotherapy.
We aim to:
- investigate the role of diet and the feasibility of fasting at the time of chemotherapy
- conduct a series of studies to look at dietary advice for people with an ileostomy (an artificial opening made to divert the flow of bowel contents outside the body)
- assess the role of low iodine diets in people undergoing radio-iodine ablation (a type of radiotherapy) and people’s experiences of this diet
- explore muscle mass and frailty in relation to outcomes of treatment such as surgery or chemotherapy, and whether nutrition-based interventions could improve outcomes.
